There are obvious signs and not-so-obvious signs that it’s time for a roof replacement on your home.

Here are some of the indicators it’s time to reach out to a roofing contractor.

Your roof is sagging.

A sagging roof is an obvious sign you need a roof replacement – pronto. In fact, call a professional roofer now before further damage occurs to your home. Besides sagging spots, you may also find rotting boards, which signifies that your roof isn’t properly ventilated.

Look for additional warning signs of trapped moisture, such as mold or moss. While you might be able to get rid of the moss on your roof by using a stiff brush, you still need to address what caused the growth in the first place.

You find water stains in the attic.

How long has it been since you have been in your attic? This is one of the first places you need to inspect to tell if it’s time to replace your roof. Look for dark streaks or stains that would indicate a leaky roof. Of course, if you see light coming in, that’s another sign that your roof may need replacing.

The edges of the shingles are curled or cupped.

Curling shingles are another sign that it might be time for a new roof. While a few missing shingles can be replaced, many shingles that are cupped, curled, or cracked can be a sign that you need a new roof.

Your asphalt shingles are “bald.”

Your asphalt shingles should be covered with tiny granules. However, those granules are knocked loose over time. (You might see a lot of loose granules at the bottom of your gutters after a heavy rain.) If your existing shingles have bald patches, it might be time to reroof with new shingles or replace the roof altogether.

Your neighbor is getting a new roof.

If you live in an area where the houses were all built at the same time, you may notice piles of roofing materials starting to pop up on your neighbors’ driveways. If the homes in your area are about 20 years old, it might be time for a roof replacement. Are you not sure about the age of your roof? Look through your home improvement records.

A severe storm recently came through your area.

Some homeowners find they need a complete roof replacement after intense storms sweep through the area. Contact your local roofing company if your roof has hail damage or wind damage. Most roofing companies help homeowners with insurance claims.

Not sure if you need a roof replacement? Schedule a free roof inspection.

The easiest way to determine if your roof needs replaced is by contacting a trusted company that offers a free roofing inspection. But, are you not sure who to call?
